Former France Under-21 international Amine Adli has opted to play for Morocco and received his maiden call-up to Walid Regragui’s squad for the upcoming matches against Liberia and Burkina Faso.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger, who was born in France, holds a dual nationality and represented the country of his birth at youth level.

However, Adli was shortlisted by the Moroccan Football Federation as a potential candidate to play for the Atlas Lions and decided to accept the invitation to switch allegiances.

The 23-year-old moved to Germany in 2021 after spending his formative years at Toulouse and has gone on to make 51 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen.

Adli was included in Regragui’s 28-man party for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Lone Stars on September 9 and the friendly with the Stallions three days later.
