Alex Iwobi admits he is “buzzing” after ending a four-year stay with Everton to sign for Premier League rivals Fulham on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international, who moved to England at the age of four, joined Arsenal in 2004 and progressed through the youth ranks to make his first-team debut on 27 October 2015 against Sheffield Wednesday.

Iwobi went on to make 149 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 15 goals in the process before heading to Goodison Park in August 2019, a month after competing at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder established himself as a first-team regular under several managers on Merseyside and was one of the standout players for Sean Dyche’s side last season.

The nephew of Super Eagles icon Jay-Jay Okocha contributed two goals and eight assists in 38 league games as the Toffees narrowly avoided relegation and he was named their Players’ Player of the Season.

Dyche revealed earlier in the week that Iwobi had emerged as a target for the Cottagers and he made the switch to the capital on transfer deadline day.

“I’m buzzing, I just can’t wait to get started, I’m excited to start my journey here,” he told FFCtv after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

“Marco Silva spoke to me about the ambitions of the Club, and I’m on board. Hopefully I can bring something to the Club.”
