Guinea-Bissau wrapped up their successful Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a 2-1 win over Group A rivals Sierra Leone at Estadio 24 de Setembro on Monday evening.

The Djurtus had already secured their spot at the continental finals prior to the match, but ensured that they finished with a healthy haul of 13 points (just two short of group winners Nigeria).

The Leone Stars claimed an early lead via Amadou Bakayoko, but GB levelled through Nito in the 35th minute to ensure the match was locked at 1-1 at half time.

And early in the second stanza, Franculino converted from Famana Quizera’s assist to put the hosts 2-1 up – a lead they enjoyed up to the full-time whistle.

The AFCON qualifiers will conclude on Tuesday 12 September with the final match from Group C, which sees Cameroon host Burundi at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua – the result will determine which two of Cameroon, Burundi and Namibia complete the 24-team field for next year’s tournament.
