Nigerian football legend John Obi Mikel believes that the best-ever performance he produced as a Chelsea FC player was against Bayern Munich.

This was in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League final which was played at Bayern’s home ground, Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany in May 2012.

Thomas Muller handed the hosts the lead in the 83rd minute, but Mikel’s teammate Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast levelled matters in the 88th minute and Chelsea went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

“My best-ever game. I should have won the man of the match,” Mikel told the club’s official website.

“But Didier obviously came good and saved the day. I’ve watched that game a few times since… There’s nothing better than this.”

Mikel played the entire match including extra-time and Drogba scored the winning penalty during the shootout as Chelsea clinched their first-ever Champions League title.

Drogba and Mikel are both considered legends at Chelsea.
