A truncated round of DStv Premiership action saw Richards Bay claim a first win since January, while heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs were held to a frustrating draw.
Bay broke a 19-game winless run in the league when they defeated Moroka Swallows 1-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday, courtesy of a fine goal from Justice Figuareido.
The Natal Rich Boyz remained in the relegation playoff spot (15th) but a first win of the campaign will be a mighty relief for coach Kaitano Tembo and his players.
Saturday saw two goalless stalemates, as Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch FC cancelled each other out at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, before Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM did the same at the FNB Stadium. The results mean that Stellies have gone four games without a win across all competitions, while Arrows, Chiefs and Royal all missed out on registering a hat-trick of league wins.
The round was wrapped up on Sunday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium with a five-goal thriller, as AmaZulu defeated Cape Town City 3-2.
Usuthu claimed an early lead via Mbongeni Gumede, but the Citizens hit back through Khanyisa Mayo in the first half, and netted again via Tshegofatso Nyama in the second stanza.
Yet a morale-booting victory was denied to the Cape side (who have now lost five successive times across all competitions) by Junior Dion, who provided two close-range strikes in injury time to turn the game in the Durban team’s favour.
The DStv Premiership will continue in the coming midweek with six matches across Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 19 September, headlined by a heavyweight clash between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
