In one of the most anticipated fixtures of the DStv Premiership season, Orlando Pirates will attempt to halt Mamelodi Sundowns’ flying start to proceedings.

League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face their biggest challenge yet in 2023-24 when they travel to the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday to face Orlando Pirates.

The Brazilians maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City prior to the international break, while the Buccaneers (7th) beat Cape Town City by the same scoreline to go three games unbeaten.

Another enticing encounter kicking off at the same time sees SuperSport United host Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Matsatsantsa (3rd) suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Golden Arrows on August 29 to slip eight points behind Sundowns and Amakhosi (5th) lost more ground on the frontrunners after being held to a goalless draw by Royal AM on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Richards Bay will be buoyed by their first win in 20 matches when they welcome Chippa United to the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday.

The Natal Rich Boyz (15th) edged Moroka Swallows 1-0 on Friday to arrest a 19-game winless streak in the league dating back to January 22, while the Chilli Boys (13th) let slip the lead to lose 3-2 against Royal AM on August 30 to suffer their second defeat in three outings.

Elsewhere, Golden Arrows will look to continue their impressive start to the season when they take on rock-bottom Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium and Stellenbosch lock horns with Moroka Swallows at the Danie Craven Stadium.

Abafana Bes’thende climbed up to second place following a 0-0 draw with Stellies on Saturday which extended their unbeaten run to three matches and they will be targeting maximum points against a Spurs team that have yet to put a single point on the board after five rounds.

The Maroons (11th) will be desperate to get back on the winning trail after picking up just one point from their last three games and the Dube Birds (8th) are hoping to bounce back from the setback to Richards Bay.

In other matches taking place across the country, Royal AM (6th) and Sekhukhune United (9th) meet at the Harry Gwala Stadium, while Cape Town City (14th) visit TS Galaxy (10th) at the Mbombela Stadium.
