Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will now do battle in the upcoming MTN8 final, following their respective semi-final victories over Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns and Chiefs entertained fans at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Peter Shalulile’s goal in the first minute set the tone for the rest of the match.
In chasing down Brandon Petersen in goal, Shalulile intercepted a pass from the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle. While Ashley Du Preez drew level from the spot in the 34th minute, Shalulile completed his brace with a goal on the stroke of half-time.
With the score 3-2 in favour of Downs come the end of 90 minutes, the Brazilians went on to secure their spot in the final of the popular tournament.
Over at the Orlando Stadium, Pirates recorded a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch in their second-leg semi-final clash on Sunday afternoon. The Cape Winelands side opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as a shot from Iqraam Rayners on the edge of the Bucs area deflected off Zakhele Lepasa before the ball rolled into the back of the net.
Nevertheless, a 2-1 win for Pirates in the first-leg aided their 2-2 aggregate result overall, as the Buccaneers advanced to the final on the away goals rule.
