Moroccan star Sofyan Amrabat explained his new role at Manchester United after making his Old Trafford debut in a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Currently on-loan from Fiorentina, Amrabat played a starring role in United’s victory over Palace, where he was spotted playing in numerous positions throughout the match.

Starting at left-back, Amrabat was later seen occupying a deep-lying playmaker’s role as the African star dictated matters in the middle of the park.

In explaining his role, Amrabat mentioned that he would avail himself to any position the manager asks of him.

I told the manager ‘I play where you need me’. If he needs me as goalkeeper I’ll play where I can help the team! Today it was left back, but I also played in midfield, it was good!” Amrabat said after the game, as quoted by the Mirror.

I like to touch the ball, of course I’m not a traditional left back, so I try to give the team extra options.

But I play where the coach needs. Of course, I’m a midfielder and I prefer to play in midfield, but I play wherever I’m needed.”
