Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers is determined to become a regular in Rangers FC’s starting line-up after being dropped due to poor form.
The 28-year-old forward has netted three times from 11 matches across all competitions since joining the Scottish giants from Italian side Cremonese in July 2023.
Dessers marked his return to the team’s starting line-up with a goal against Motherwell in a Scottish Premier League game played over the weekend.
“All I work for during the week is to start these important matches. At the moment the manager makes his choices and that’s part of football,” Dessers told the Daily Record.
“It’s also part of being at a big club like Rangers. I work hard every day and I will keep pushing and keep working. I will wait for my moment and when my moment is there I will show it on the pitch. It’s all about that in football.
“Of course, I didn’t want to get my chance because of Danilo’s injury. He’s a really good guy and a top player. I feel really bad for him with his injury, we all do. I hope he will be back soon. We have three or four really good strikers and with so many games this season we will need everyone,” he continued.
“I am sure I will play my part and make my goals because I know you have to take your chances. It’s part of being at a big club, I have experience of this from Feyenoord.
“I am used to this. I am not giving up, in fact, I will push harder. That will be good for the players playing right now and also for myself. We push each other.”
Dessers has scored one goal in four international matches for Nigeria.
