South Africa’s DStv Premiership will host six matches this midweek, with the pick being a potential thriller between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City.
Chiefs and City will battle at the FNB Stadium on the evening of Tuesday 3 October, with both teams looking to build momentum: the Amakhosi snapped a four-game (across all competitions) winless streak with a 2-1 triumph over Sekhukhune United on September 27, while the Citizens broke a six-game (across all competitions) drought by trumping rivals Cape Town Spurs 3-1 this past weekend.
Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki is adamant that his team is improving: “I think it’s more of a build-up, if one takes a look at the last three matches we played in terms of the application and implementation of the tactical approach, I think we are progressing,” he explained.
“Even [against Sekhukhune], as much as we conceded first, we showed resilience to get the equalising goal and the winner, but the most important thing is how we address those moments. I think the most important thing now is the attitude, the confidence and the courage that we showed and taking it into the next game.”
A busy Wednesday opens with an early kick-off between Moroka Swallows and Chippa United – which will see the in-form Birds chasing a fifth win in the space of six league matches – before an evening trio of matches pitting Stellenbosch FC against TS Galaxy, Richards Bay against Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs against SuperSport United.
All eyes will be on Spurs as they desperately look to end their run of seven successive losses – now a PSL-era record for the worst start to a league season – and one which has cost coach Shaun Bartlett his job.
The midweek slate of matches will be rounded off on Thursday evening when Sekhukhune United host second-placed Golden Arrows. The latter side will be looking to eat into Mamelodi Sundowns’ 10-point lead at the top of the log.
