Hearts of Oak insist there is no truth to the rumours that they have approached Bashiru Hayford to replace Martin Koopman as head coach at the club.

Koopman hasn’t made the best of starts to his tenure at the Accra Sports Stadium, winning just two of his opening nine matches at the helm since taking the job in August.

The Phobians are unbeaten in their last six matches though, as they head into Sunday’s home clash with Legon Cities seven points adrift of Ghana Premier League leaders Aduana Stars in 11th place.

A report in the local media has claimed that the Accra giants made contact with Hayford in a move to bring him in for Koopman, but management have stressed that the Dutchman retains their full support.

“The Management of Accra Hearts of Oak denies media reports that the club has recently held talks with Coach Bashiru Hayford to take up the coaching job at the club,” a statement from the club read.

“The report, captioned ‘Bashiru Hayford confirms Hearts of Oak talks’ carries no iota of truth and should therefore be disregarded with immediate effect.

“Coach Martinus Hendrikus Koopman remains our head coach and has the full backing of the club. We call on all Phobians to give him the maximum support and peace of mind to perform his duties.”
