Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka could play at the next Africa Cup of Nations after being approached by the national team of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to The Mail, the Red Devils right-back is considering the offer, as he sits far down the pecking order as far as playing for England is concerned.
Wan-Bissaka has the likes of Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Tino Livramento as competition, making it highly unlikely that he would break into Gareth Southgate’s team.
The 25-year-old has yet to be capped by any country at senior international level, though he has represented the DRC at U-20 level and England at U-20 and U-21 level. He is English by birth, but qualifies for the African country thanks to his familial heritage.
With time running out to make a mark at international level, the DRC’s offer would give Wan-Bissaka the chance to play at a major international tournament as early as January and February of next year, with the Leopards set to battle Morocco, Zambia and Tanzania in Group F of the AFCON.
