Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana is an injury doubt ahead of next month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

This comes after his manager at Southampton, Russell Martin revealed that the 21-year-old attacker will be out of action until the New Year due to a hamstring injury.

Therefore, Sulemana faces a race against time to be fit for the AFCON finals to be staged in Ivory Coast between 13 January and 11 February 2024.

“Kamaldeen felt his hamstring on Wednesday night, he’ll have a similar timeline to Ross (Stewart),” Martin said on Ghana Soccer Net.

“Two big losses but when someone gets injured it’s an opportunity for someone else. They’ll get everyone’s best care and attention.

“We’ve been really clear about January, what we need and what we want. We didn’t envisage those two getting injured, so it might change the plan a little bit,” he added.

“It depends on their progress and the results between now and then. People will have the chance to step up now to take the opportunities. Everyone else has to be ready.”

Sulemana has 18 caps for Ghana and he is a regular under the Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
