Medeama president Moses Armah is confident that his club will qualify for the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League after their 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad on Friday.
This is the Mauve and Yellow’s debut season in Africa’s elite club competition after they won the Ghana Premier League title for the first time in their history last term.
Evans Adotey’s side navigated the qualifying rounds by beating Remo Stars of Nigeria and Horoya of Guinea to reach the lucrative group stages, where they were drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Al Ahly, the Great Chabab and Young Africans.
After suffering a 3-0 defeat to the Red Eagles on matchday 1, they bounced back six days later to put their first points on the board as Mamudu Kamaradin (90+4′) scored a dramatic late winner at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with Daniel Lomotey (45′) having earlier cancelled out Abdelraouf Benguit’s 39th-minute penalty for the visitors.
Armah was pleased with Medeama’s performance against the Algerian giants and is targeting another three points when they host Yanga on December 8.
“My players performed admirably against CR Belouizdad, they were enthusiastic going into the game, which aided us,” the Ghanaian businessman told Akoma FM.
“We’re going all out against the Young Africans, and we’re going to win. We are going to qualify from the group, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Kumasi.
“I am still asking them to support us this Friday, and we will not let them down. Medeama will, without a doubt, advance to the quarter finals.”
