The upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals look set to leave Nottingham Forest’s squad depleted.

Six Nottingham players are expected to be included in the squads for the AFCON finals to be staged by Ivory Coast between 13 January and 11 February 2024.

Nigerian defender Ola Aina, Ivorian trio Serge Aurier, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangare and Senegalese duo Moussa Niakhate and Cheikhou Kouyate are the six players due to depart for the West African country soon.

“For sure we have to think about the period, robustness and freshness and obviously performance comes into as well and game plans,” Cooper said on All Nigeria Soccer.

“Obviously the other thing that has to come into our thinking is we’re losing a lot of players to the Africa Cup of Nations so there are things to bear in mind while trying to prepare and put what we hope is the right team for the next game.

“And that’s where we are with Fulham at the moment.”

Nottingham striker Taiwo Awoniyi was also set to be included in the Nigeria squad, but the bulky striker is out injured for at least three months.
