The midweek action in South Africa’s DStv Premiership saw Mamelodi Sundowns claim a record-extending 11th successive win since the start of the season, while AmaZulu returned to form.

At Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Sundowns further strengthened their grip on top spot with a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom-of-the-log Cape Town Spurs.

Sipho Mbule and Grant Kekana both scored in the opening half hour to put the Brazilians in firm control, and Peter Shalulile added a third late on.

The reigning champions now enjoy an eight-point lead over nearest chasers Cape Town City – having played three games fewer. As for Spurs, a 13th loss from 14 league outings leaves them seven points adrift at the foot of the table.

At the King Zwelithini Stadium, AmaZulu shrugged off a run of three successive losses across all competitions by defeating Sekhukhune United 1-0.

Sede Dion Junior struck midway through the first half for Usuthu, who moved up to 10th place on the log and pushed Babina Noko down to 11th.

The DStv Premiership will feature two matches this weekend – Moroka Swallows v SuperSport United and Golden Arrows v Orlando Pirates – either side of the Carling Knockout final between Stellenbosch FC and TS Galaxy.
