Algeria and Angola will lock horns in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group D encounter at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Monday.

Date: Monday 15 January 2024

Kick-off: 20h00 CAT

Head-to-head: The two teams have met nine times with Algeria winning two matches compared to Angola’s one victory. Six matches ended in a draw.

Algeria’s last three results: The Desert Foxes are in great form at the moment having defeated Mozambique 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifier before thrashing Togo 3-0 in a praticise match. They ended their preparations for the 2023 AFCON finals with an impressive 4-0 win over Burundi in a friendly encounter.

Angola’s last three results: Palancas Negras have been unconvincing lately as they drew 0-0 with both Cape Verde and Mauritius in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. They wrapped up their preparations for the 2023 AFCON finals with another 0-0 stalemate against DR Congo in a friendly game.

Team news: Both teams are yet to report injuries in their camp ahead of their encounter.

Key players, Algeria: Having captained Algeria as they clinched the 2019 AFCON title, Riyad Mahrez remains a dangerous winger who can both create and score goals. Baghdad Boudjenah, who scored Algeria’s winning goal in the 2019 AFCON final, is still a reliable striker having recently netted against Burundi.

Key players, Angola: Gelson Dala is one of the reasons why Angola were able to qualify for this tournament as the skillful attacker netted two crucial goals in the qualifiers while no-nonsense defender Jonathan Buatu’s experience at the back will be important as the Palancas Negras look to contain the Desert Foxes.
