Egypt: (1) 2 (Mohamed 2’, Salah 97’)

Mozambique: (0) 2 (Witi 55’, Baque 58)

Egypt: El Shenawy, Hany (Kamal 66’), Abdelmonem, Hegazy, Hamdy Sharaf, Elneny (Ashour 77’), Fathi, Zizo, Salah, Mohamed, Trezeguet (Marmoush 66’)

Mozambique: Hernani Siluane, Mandava, Edmilson, Mexer, Domingos, Witi (Momade 81’), Amade, Guima (Nene 89’), Vilanculos (Baque 46’), Domingues (Langa 46’), Ratifo (King 66’)

Egypt took the lead in the second minute of the match, as Mostafa Mohamed rectified a scuffed shot by Mohamed Salah inside the Mozambique box as the African giants took control of the encounter.

The Pharaohs struggled to infiltrate the stubborn Mozambique defence for much of the first-half and went into the break with a narrow 1-0 advantage.

Witi levelled proceedings in the 55th minute with a well-timed header from a Domingos cross on the edge of the area. Mozambique took the lead three minutes later, as Clesio Baque capped off a swift transition move en-route to goal.

However, Egypt were handed a lifeline deep into stoppage time with VAR spotting an infringement inside the Mozambique area. Mohamed Salah assumed duty from the spot and made no mistake by scoring a late equaliser.

Egypt will now shift their attention to Ghana on the 18th of January, while Mozambique will face Cape Verde in their next Group B fixture.
