The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will continue with an exciting Group C match between Senegal and Cameroon at the Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro.

Date: Friday 19 January 2024

Kick-off: 19h00 CAT

Head-to-head: Senegal and Cameroon have faced off at the Africa Cup of Nations on five occasions. Their last and only meeting in the group stage saw Senegal claim a 2-0 in 1990, while Cameroon picked up three victories in the knockout phase of the tournament, including a famous 3-2 win on penalties in the 2002 final.

Before bagging a 3-0 win against Gambia in their opening Group C fixture, Senegal headed into the tournament with a favourable record of two wins and one draw in three games in all competitions.

Following Cameroon’s initial 1-1 draw against Guinea on Monday, coach Rigobert Song’s side are now on a run of three consecutive stalemates. The Indomitable Lions last recorded a victory on the 17th of November 2023, where they bagged a 3-0 win over Mauritius in a CAF World Cup qualifier.

Team news: Senegal – The Lions of Teranga reported no new injury concerns following their opening tie and are expected to field their strongest possible XI against Cameroon.

Team news: Cameroon – After sustaining an injury days before the tournament, Vincent Aboubaker, Cameroon will hope to have their captain back in time for the game against Senegal. Also, goalkeeper Andre Onana will be in contention for a place in goal after missing his side’s opening game against Guinea.

Key players, Senegal: Yet to open his account at the AFCON this year, Sadio Mane could look to the Cameroon tie to break his duck in the Ivory Coast. The 31-year-old is known to be a big game player and are among the most experienced players in the Senegal camp.

Key players, Cameroon: Andre Onana will be a welcome addition to the Cameroon backline, given his astute passing abilities as a goalkeeper. As a big character in the dressing room, Onana’s voice will no doubt be appreciated in a match of this stature.
