Zambia fought back to hold Tanzania to a 1-1 draw in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group F match played at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro on Sunday night.

Date: 21 January 2024

Zambia (0) 1 (Daka 88′)

Tanzania (1) 1 (Msuva 11′)

First 45’: The Taifa Stars were the better side in the opening exchanges and they deservedly took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Simon Msuva netted after being set up by Mbwana Samatta. Zambia were handed another blow in the 44th minute when Roderick Kabwe was shown a red card after receiving his second yellow card of the game and the score was 1-0 to Tanzania at the interval.

Second 45’: The second-half saw Patson Daka keep the Tanzania defence busy with his incisive movement. The Leicester City marksman forced goalkeeper Aishi Manula into making a decent save in the 62nd minute. Chipolopolo upped the tempo in the last five minutes of the game and they grabbed a late equalising goal through Daka who headed home a Clatous Chama corner-kick to ensure that the game ended in a 1-1 draw on the night.

What’s next?: Chipolopolo remain third in the group standings and they need a win over Morocco on 24 January to progress to the Round of 16. Tanzania, on the other hand, remained at the bottom of the standings and they can reach the Round of 16 if they secure a win over DR Congo on 24 January and the other results go their way.
