Burkina Faso were beaten 2-0 by Angola in their final group stage match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday evening. The result sees Angola come out of Group D as winners, but Burkina Faso is not to despair as they still also qualify for the Round of 16 of the tournament.

First 45’: Both teams started off the match looking to go ahead early and played an attacking brand of football. It was Angola who drew first blood in the first half through Mabululu who scored a header from a cross that was delivered by Fredy. Angola dominated the match after scoring in the first half and had most of the possession at this stage.
Second 45’: The second half saw Burkina Faso try their utmost best to draw level but their efforts did not materialise. Bertrand Traoré stood out for the Stallions as he continued to break through Angola’s strong defence but could not find the back of the net.
Just as the match was coming to an end in the 93rd minute Angola doubled their lead and secured their victory as Zini finished after coming off the bench.
What’s next: The result ensured smooth qualification for Angola into the next round of the 2023 AFCON. Burkina Faso finished second in the group, meaning that they will also feature in the Round of 16.
