Tanzania: A. Manula, L. Mwaikenda, B. Mwamnyeto, I. Hamad, M. Hussein, N. Miroshi, H. Mnoga, H. Mao (M. Yassin 71′), F. Salum (K. Denis 79′), S. Msuva (M. Abraham 86′), M. Samatta (C. M’Mombwa 86′).

DR Congo: L. Mpasi, G. Kalulu, C. Mbemba, D. Batubinsika, A. Masuaku, C. Pickel (A. Tshibola 68′), S. Moutoussamy, S. Katompa Mvumpa (M. Elia 53′), G. Kakuta (O. Mfulu 87′), Y. Wissa, F. Mayele (C. Bakambu 68′).

First 45′: The first half was a tepid affair as both teams had a lot to play for in their final Group F match. The Leopards had the best chances, with Yoane Wissa firing straight at Aishi Manula on 25 minutes after going past a couple of players inside the box before Fiston Mayele failed to beat the goalkeeper with a toe-poke from Gael Kakuta’s excellent through-ball on the half-hour mark. Simon Msuva and Mbwana Samatta had earlier missed the target with wayward strikes for the Taifa Stars, while Samuel Moutoussamy cleared the crossbar from inside the penalty area on 35 minutes for Sebastien Desabre’s side.

Second 45′: The football didn’t improve in the second half, although DR Congo did threaten on a couple of occasions. Meschack Elia blazed a shot well over the goal from inside the box on 73 minutes and Manula did well to recover five minutes later when he came off his line, but was caught in no man’s land and he just managed to get back in time to push Wissa’s chip away from danger. The Brentford winger then flashed an effort inches over the bar from inside the penalty area five minutes from time after picking up the ball from a corner.

What the result means: DR Congo marched on from Group F as runners-up to Morocco on three points following three successive draws. The Atlas Lions beat Zambia 1-0 in the concurrent fixture at the Laurent Pokou Stadium to finish on seven points. Tanzania join Chipolopolo in making an early exit after they both collected just two points from their three group encounters.

What’s next: The Leopards will face Egypt in the last 16 at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro on Sunday, January 28.
