Nigeria will lock horns with Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday.



Date: Friday 2 February 2024


Kick-off: 19h00 CAT


Head-to-head: The two teams have met 10 times across all competitions with Nigeria having the edge in this rivalry. The Super Eagles have registered three wins compared to Palancas Negras’ two victories, while five games ended in a stalemate.



Nigeria’s last three results: The Super Eagles are undefeated in their last three matches – recording three consecutive wins. They secured a 1-0 win over Ivory Coast before defeating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 and Cameroon 2-0 which earned Nigeria a place in the quarter-finals.


Angola’s last three results: Palancas Negras are also unbeaten in their last three matches – recording three consecutive wins. They claimed a 3-2 win over Mauritania before defeating Burkina Faso 2-0 and Namibia 3-0 which earned Nigeria a spot in the quarter-finals.


Team news: Nigeria could be without Stanley Nwabali and William Troost-Ekong who are both nursing injuries. Angola goalkeeper Neblu will be missing as he is suspended after being sent off during the game against Namibia.





Key players, Nigeria: Ademola Lookman is the Super Eagles’ main source of goals having netted twice in this tournament while Victor Osimhen – who is among the best strikers in the world – will be determined to end his three-match goal-drought.




Key players, Angola: Gelson Dala has been a consistent performer for Palancas Negras having been named Man of the Match twice in the ongoing tournament. Mabululu will be hungry for more goals having found the back of the net three times in four matches.
