Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah should have scored a hat-trick against Brentford FC on Saturday, according to Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp.
The world-class winger grabbed a goal and an assist after coming on as a substitute in what was his first match since he sustained an injury during the recent 2023 AFCON finals where he captained Egypt.
Klopp was pleased with his players’ performance, including Salah, after the Reds consolidated their lead at the top of the Premier League log standings following a 4-1 win over Brentford.
“I’m not surprised about that, to be honest. Mo played the first game for weeks, months, I’m not sure. I think [he] could have had a hat-trick,” Klopp said on the club’s website.
“I don’t know the first one, but Lucho [Luis Diaz] kicks the ball against his right foot, or whatever, then the other Mo usually finishes that off but the goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding.
“They all played good. They are good players. Cody’s goal was absolutely outstanding. That’s all cool.
“We know. You can count as well the games coming up. It would be helpful if we have a bit more than one for each position,” he continued.
“We have to see how we deal with that now. It’s all fine. That’s the situation. We cannot change that.”
Salah and his Liverpool teammates will now take on Luton Town in a league clash on February 21 before facing Chelsea FC in the Carabao Cup final on February 25.
