Algeria Football Association (FAF) has appointed experienced tactician Vladimir Petkovic to coach their men’s senior national team.

The Bosnian-born Swiss mentor was previously the head coach of French side Bordeaux, the Switzerland national team, a string of Swiss clubs, Turkish club Samsunspor, and Italian club Lazio.

Petkovic replaces Djamel Belmadi who left in January 2024 after Desert Foxes failed to get past the group stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast.

The FAF issued the following statement indicating that the 60-year-old will be unveiled on Monday.

“The FAF announces the finalization of the agreement appointing the new national coach,” a statement read.

“The Bosnian coach Mr. Vladimir PETKOVIC is the new national coach. The new national coach will arrive in Algiers this Sunday and will host a press conference on Monday.”

Algeria are scheduled to take on Bolivia and South Africa in friendly matches on 22 March, and 26 March respectively.
