The DStv Premiership’s midweek action will feature a derby between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC, with the latter team looking to keep up their dominance over their high-profile rivals.

Stellies defeated the Citizens 1-0 when the teams met in the Premiership earlier this season (Anicet Oura’s strike separated the teams in December 2023 at the Danie Craven Stadium) and a win or draw on Tuesday night at the DHL Cape Town Stadium would see coach Steve Barker’s side extend their unbeaten run in this fixture to seven league matches – a streak which started almost three years ago.

Derbies bring that little bit of an edge and there will be a big crowd out for both clubs, but we want to give our supporters that joy and happiness and the bragging rights that they deserve,” said Barker.

On the subject of derbies, focus will also fall on the results recorded by Kaizer Chiefs (who will be at home to Golden Arrows on Tuesday) and Orlando Pirates (who will host Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday) ahead of their eagerly-anticipated Soweto derby on Saturday 9 March.

While the Buccaneers beat Polokwane City this past weekend to keep pace in the race for second, the Amakhosi were held 0-0 by Moroka Swallows and the pressure is building on coach Cavin Johnson.

Now we’ve come back and because we let ourselves down in the Nedbank [Cup, where Chiefs lost to Milford FC] we’ve got to make sure that every game we play from now onwards is a cup final. We also know that every team we play against plays against Chiefs as if it is a cup final. We’ve got our work cut out for us,” said Johnson.

Elsewhere, AmaZulu will chase a home win against Moroka Swallows at the King Zwelithini Stadium; Chippa United and Richards Bay will battle at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium; and Sekhukhune United will target three home points against Royal AM at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Finally, champions and runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns will face a tricky challenge away to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium, with the Rockets looking to bounce back from a surprise loss away to bottom-of-the-log Cape Town Spurs this past weekend.
