Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula claims he is feeling “100 per cent” after being cleared to return to training following his collapse against Hungry Lions in the Nedbank Cup last weekend.
The 34-year-old was carried off the field on a stretcher just before half-time after he suffered from chest pains and shortness of breath, having received medical attention on the pitch prior to being substituted.
Makhaula was rushed to the Milpark Hospital, where he spent the next few days under observation before being discharged upon the conclusion of his consultation with a specialist.
The Buccaneers are next in action against Sekhukhune United on March 30 when the DStv Premiership resumes after the international break, although it remains to be seen if Jose Riveiro will risk him given the health scare.
“I have been ordered to rest and have been taking it easy,” Makhaula told the club’s official website. “The coach and the team doctor will advise on how quickly I can rejoin the team, but I’m feeling 100 per cent and ready to go.”
Makhaula has made just seven league appearances for Pirates this season, but he started the last four games against Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City, Cape Town Spurs and Kaizer Chiefs before the incident in the cup-tie.
