Nigeria’s interim coach George Finidi believes that the Super Eagles were the better side despite the defeat to Mali on Tuesday night.

The 2023 AFCON silver medallists succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Les Aigles in an international friendly game played at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.

Goals from El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia earned Mali their first victory over Nigeria since September 1975.

“If you take away those two goals, you think we are the winning team,” Finidi said on All Nigeria Soccer.

“That is football, it is what is it. You win sometimes and you lose sometimes.

“It is a friendly game, you see one or two players that can be used in the future, that is the most important thing.”

The Nigerian Football Federation continue its search for a new permanent head coach for the Super Eagles ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria will take on South Africa at home and Benin away in June this year.
