Cape Town Spurs’ fight to escape the bottom of the DStv Premiership hit a rough patch on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 1-0 by Moroka Swallows at the death, courtesy of an 89th minute goal by Gabadinho Mhango at the Athlone Stadium.

Swallows, who are fighting relegation as well, picked up a crucial three points, but it was a tough pill to swallow for Spurs who had their fair chances in the match but failed to take even a point off of their opposition.

Elsewhere, Richards Bay who are also in danger of the drop lost to Golden Arrows 2-1 as the plot thickens at the bottom of the log.

Sekhukhune United grabbed an important win beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 and securing their fifth win in a row in the league. The victory sees Babina Noko climb up to third, displacing Pirates and are now just two behind Stellenbosch.

Stellies beat struggling Royal AM 3-0 and Cape Town City were held to a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs. Polokwane City got three points as they beat Chippa 1-0 and AmaZulu’s poor run of form continued as they lost 2-0 to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium.

Mamelodi Sundowns are still comfortably clear at the top, 11 points ahead of Stellenbosch with two games in hand. The Pretoria team were not in action in the league due to CAF Champions League quarter-final commitments.
