With the CAF Champions League semi-finals reaching it’s conclusion on Saturday night, TP Mazembe and Esperance Tunis advanced to the next round of the competition after their respective victories over Petro de Luanda and ASEC Mimosas.
Following a 0-0 scoreline in their first leg encounter, Petro de Luanda welcomed TP Mazembe to the Estadio 11 de Novembro on Saturday evening. Jonathan Toro put the Angolan side ahead in the 29th minute but were eventually stopped in their tracks when TP Mazembe star Philippe Kinzumbi levelled matters in the 82nd minute. Then, in a dramatic turn of events, Joel Beya crushed Petro de Luanda hearts by popping up to score the winner deep into stoppage time.
Then, Tunisian outfit Esperance secured their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating Ivorian giants ASEC (0-0 on aggregate) 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny.
Esperance goalkeeper Amanallah Memmiche proved to be the hero for his side in the shootout, saving the second and third penalties by Christian Koffi and Salifou Diarrassouba.
ES Tunis will now face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals, while TP Mazembe will face Al Ahly in their next CAFCL assignment.
