Roma defender Evan Ndicka had a health scare after collapsing on the pitch during the Serie A clash with Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium on Sunday.

The Ivory Coast international, who was part of the squad that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil two months ago, fell to the ground off the ball in the 72nd minute with the score deadlocked at 1-1.

Ndicka received treatment on the field and was carried off on a stretcher, although he managed to give everyone in attendance the thumbs-up gesture before being taken to hospital.

The match was subsequently abandoned and the Giallorossi announced that the 24-year-old centre-back is in “good spirits” after undergoing checks.

“He will remain under observation for tests in hospital,” the Eternal City outfit added in a statement, with Ndicka having been visited by team-mates.

The Auxerre youth product is naturally rated doubtful for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against top-flight rivals AC Milan on Thursday, April 18, having been suspended for his team’s 1-0 win at the San Siro in the first leg.

Ndicka has made eight appearances in the competition this season, while he’s featured 19 times in the league for Daniele De Rossi’s side.
