Simba SC official Ahmed Ally has expressed confidence that the team will secure qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.
The two two teams in the Mainland Premier League are given passage to the premier continental competition, and Simba currently find themselves in third place, trailing leaders Young Africans by 12 points and second-placed Azam by one point.
However, Simba have one game in hand over the top two and know that securing a Champions League place for the 2024-25 season is in their own hands.
It has been a disappointing campaign for Wekundu wa Msimbazi, who recently parted ways with head coach Abdelhak Benchikha, but Ally has pleaded with supporters to come in numbers and inspire their push to finish second – even if they have to stomach the hurt of watching rivals Young Africans claim the league title.
“Once you become a football fan, you should be ready for two situations, sorrow, and happiness, that is given, Simba SC is struggling at the moment in terms of goals we had this season, we have not fulfilled our plans at all,” the media and communications manager explained, as quoted by The Guardian.
“Our fans’ presence in venues in various stadiums has been low, we need our fans to show up for their team, they need to support us during this period, we still have a chance to finish in the top two and play in CAF Champions League… we need them to come in big numbers.”
He added, “We know our players and technical bench understand what is in front of us, we are optimistic that we have the best squad to do the job and we are ready.”
Simba will next be in league action on Sunday afternoon when they face Kagera Sugar away from home.
