RSB Berkane will head into the second-leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup final with a slight advantage following their 2-1 win against Zamalek in the first-leg at the Berkane Municipal Stadium on Sunday night.
The Moroccan side dominated the opening exchanges of the game while Zamalek were often starved of the ball throughout the first-half.
As a result of their early pressure, RSB Berkane were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute which was expertly converted by captain Issoufou Dayo.
The two-time champions of the tournament doubled their advantage soon after the half-hour mark, as Adil Tahif headed home a telling cross by Mohamed El Morabit from a corner situation.
Zamalek drew one back moments after the restart as Seifeddine Jaziri managed to get on the end of a telling ball played in by Ahmed Sayed’s on the edge of the area with a fine header to the bottom left corner of the goal.
The Egyptian side pressed on for much of the second 45 but were unable to infiltrate the RSB Berkane backline as the Moroccan side held on to secure a crucial victory on home soil.
Zamalek will now host RSB Berkane in the return leg which is scheduled for Sunday, the 19th of May at the Cairo International Stadium (19h00 GMT).
