ES Tunis head coach Miguel Cardoso remains upbeat about their CAF Champions League title prospects despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Al Ahly in the first leg of the final on Saturday.

The Blood And Gold enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium and created the better chances, but failed to make them count.

Marcel Koller’s side have a formidable record in the competition this season as they extended their unbeaten run to 13 games, while keeping their ninth consecutive clean sheet in the process.

However, Cardoso is convinced his team has the tools to get the job done in the second leg at the Cairo International Stadium on May 25 as the club goes in search of their fifth African crown.

“The finals always involve numerous calculations due to the intense spirit in which they are played,” the Portuguese tactician said in the post-match press conference.

“Every coach seeks to capitalise on the opportunities presented. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalise on the chances that came our way. We performed well in the first half, but in the second half, there were openings.

“We failed to exploit the home advantage and the support of the crowd. The next match for this team will be pivotal. Nevertheless, we still hold favorable prospects in the return leg.

“We approach each game considering its unique circumstances, and we possess players who can make a significant impact.”
