CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly are targeting Qatari-Egyptian defender Youssef Ayman, who is currently on the books of Qatari club Al Duhail.

The 25-year-old has Egyptian roots, but came through the Doha-based Aspire Academy and has represented Qatar at both junior and senior international level.

Ayman was notably part of Qatar’s squad for the 2023 Gold Cup, though he was omitted from the team which defended their Asian Cup title last January on home soil.

The centre-back would bring defensive reinforcements to Al Ahly, who had to lean heavily on Mohamed Abdelmonem and Ramy Rabia in their Champions League campaign due to injuries suffered by Yasser Ibrahim and Mahmoud Metwally.

The Red Eagles may also lose key man Abdelmonem in the off-season, with reports linking the Egyptian international with a move to Europe to join French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Another benefit to signing Ayman is that he can be registered as a local player, giving Al Ahly the chance to reinforce their squad with more foreign signings, ahead of one of the most important seasons in the club’s history.

The Cairo giants are set to represent Africa in both the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the new 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States in June and July of 2025.
