Angola’s mandate as they are set to play against Eswatini in the third match of the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Friday evening, 7 June at Estadio 11 de Novembro is to get maximum points for the first time in this phase.
Kick-off is at 18:00 CAT.
Palancas Negras will back themselves against their bottom-placed opponents in an attempt to secure a victory and maintain their proximity to Cameroon at the top of Group D.
Angola has so far avoided defeat in their World Cup qualifying matches, but they haven’t been able to win all three points against Cape Verde and Mauritius.
The lack of goals in those draws has been Pedro Goncalves’ team’s biggest problem, highlighting the issues that need to be resolved for Palancas Negras to take things to the next level.
Cameroon, Cape Verde and Libya are all tied on four points, getting maximum points against Eswatini will be a massive aid in Angola’s bid to qualify for the World Cup.
Goncalves’s players have the chance to be joint top should they beat Eswatini and Libya draws against Mauritius. It would also be beneficial should Cameroon play a draw against Cape Verde.
While these outcomes might not happen, a win in this fixture for Angola will leave the bottom team with a third consecutive loss in their qualifying campaign.
Dominic Kunene’s charges will hope that their hosts lose their third qualifying game.
