Nigeria will be hoping to replicate their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal win against South Africa when they take them on once again in the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match will be played on Friday, 7 June at Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Kick-off is at 21:00 CAT.
The hosts come into this encounter in Group C with two points after two games, whilst South Africa are currently on three points and behind group leaders Rwanda by one point.
With the guidance of new coach Finidi George who replaced Jose Peseiro, Nigeria are on the prowl for what would be their seventh qualification for the FIFA World Cup. If history is anything to go by, the Super Eagles have been more dominant in this fixture.
They have won four and drawn five out of their last 10 matches against Bafana Bafana. This time around, it might be more challenging as they are without a few key players.
South Africa have made a name for themselves as one of the most improved teams in recent years and following their third-place finish at the AFCON, they are now ranked amongst the top 10 teams in the CAF region.
Bafana Bafana’s defence has improved immensely as well, and they only conceded three goals in seven matches at the AFCON, they also kept five clean sheets.
The goal for the South Africans, who are led by Hugo Broos is to qualify for the World Cup main draw for the fourth time in their history and make their first appearance since 2010 when they hosted the intercontinental showpiece.
