Libya emerged as 2-1 winners over Mauritius in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Thursday evening.

Therefore, the Mediterranean Knights opened a three-point lead atop the standings, while the Dodos remain fifth on the table. Libya will be away to Cape Verde on 11 June and Mauritius will play host to Eswatini on the same day.

Libya started the match brightly and they took a 1-0 lead against Mauritius after Faisal Al Badri converted a penalty in the 20th minute with the Dodos’ defence exposed.

However, the Dodos launched attacks and they restored parity in the 34th minute when Kevin Bru beat experienced goalkeeper Murad Al Wuheeshi to make it 1-1.

The hosts responded by exerting pressure on the Dodos after conceding and they restored their lead through Ahmed Ekrawa who scored in the 40th minute, and Libya were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Mauritius struggled to penetrate Libya’s defence after the restart and the visitors introduced Francois Aurelien on the hour-mark as they looked to level matters for the second time.

The hosts were reduced to 10 players after Ali Youssef was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute, but Libya stood firm at the back and they emerged as 2-1 winners.
