Libya will look to keep pace with Cameroon when they travel to Praia for a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde at the Estadio Nacional de Cabo Verde on Tuesday, June 11.
Kick-off is at 6pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)
The Mediterranean Knights have made a solid start to their qualifying campaign and are tied with Group D leaders Cameroon on seven points after three rounds.
Milutin Sredojevic’s side kicked off proceedings with a 1-0 victory over Eswatini in Mbombela, South Africa on November 17 before holding the Indomitable Lions to a 1-1 draw on home soil four days later.
The North Africans maintained their unbeaten start in the group by defeating Mauritius 2-1 in Benghazi on June 6 to keep the pressure on Cameroon.
The Blue Sharks will be licking their wounds after suffering a heavy 4-1 beating at the hands of the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde on June 8.
Bubista’s side have emerged as a force on the continent after reaching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals and enjoying some good results in 2024 prior to the June qualifiers.
The Atlantic Ocean islanders trail the Group D frontrunners by three points in fourth place and are breathing down Angola’s neck, with the Black Sable Antelopes also undefeated after three matches.
This will be only the third meeting between the two teams, who were drawn in the same group for the 2017 AFCON qualifiers. Cape Verde won the first encounter 2-1 before Libya triumphed 1-0 in the reverse fixture.
