Guinea fell short and lost 1-0 against Mozambique in the final stages of their CAF 2026 World Cup qualifier at Stade El Abdi on Monday evening.
The result for the Mambas made sure that they tied with Algeria in terms of the points tally, with both nations having a total of nine after four matches had been played. Mozambique are second and Algeria still occupy first place in the Group G standings.
The match was mostly dominated by Guinea in the first half, but things didn’t exactly go according to plan as they did not manage to get on the scoresheet in the first half.
Matters remained goalless until the very last minute but it was clear that Mozambique was the more determined to score out of the two sides.
After a foul in the box, a penalty was awarded to the Mambas during stoppage time and it was taken and converted in style by Geny Catamo.
Guinea is tied with Botswana and Uganda, with six points in total. Somalia remained in last place having not picked up a win throughout their entire qualifying campaign.
