Cape Verde boosted their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes with a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya at the Estadio Nacional de Cabo Verde on Tuesday, June 11.

The Blue Sharks bounced back from a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Cameroon three days earlier as they moved up to third place in Group D, level on seven points with the Mediterranean Knights and the Indomitable Lions, who were set to face Angola later on that same night.

Bubista’s side made the perfect start in Praia when Diney Borges opened the scoring on 10 minutes and they went on to control proceedings in the first half, with the visitors offering little in an attacking sense.

Libya did look more lively in the second half in an attempt to get back into the contest, but the hosts managed to keep them at bay and threatened to score again around the 75-minute mark, only to be thwarted.

Milutin Sredojevic’s side applied some late pressure, although they weren’t able to penetrate the home goal and Cape Verde picked up their second win of the qualifying campaign.
