The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Real Tamale United with bringing the game into disrepute against Dreams FC on Wednesday.

RTU remain rooted to the foot of the Ghana Premier League table after they crashed to a heavy 8-1 defeat at the Dawu Sports Stadium in the final catch-up fixture for Still Believe.

The result meant that Abdul Karim Zito’s side had retained their top-flight status with one game remaining in the season as they pulled four points clear of the relegation zone in 11th place.

However, their midweek opponents were alleged to have fielded unregistered players for the matchday 28 clash in Accra, leading to the GFA levelling charges against the club from Tamale.

“Real Tamale United have been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC,” the GFA Disciplinary Committee said in a statement.

“It is alleged that the Club intentionally deceived the match officials during the said game by using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players of their club, which constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”

The GFA has given RTU until Friday to respond to the charges. Iddi Manzah Alhassan’s side were reportedly short-staffed after several players boycotted the match due to unpaid wages.
