Finidi George has resigned from his position as head coach of the Nigerian men’s senior national team.

According to the Daily Post, George took the decision on Saturday in the wake of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) announcing moves to employ a foreign technical advisor.

His exit was confirmed by former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, on his X account on Saturday.

He wrote, “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”

George lasted just a month and a half as official permanent coach, having been appointed on 29 April 2024 to replace Jose Peseiro – though he was in position on an interim basis from March when he oversaw friendlies against Ghana and Mali.

George was then in charge for two competitive fixtures, as the Super Eagles recorded a 1-1 draw with South Africa and 2-1 defeat at the hands of Benin – both in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Nigeria have yet to win a match in Group C and are four points off the pace of co-leaders Rwanda, South Africa and Benin.
