Chidera Ejuke has made a bit of history after becoming the first Nigerian to sign for Sevilla, bringing an end to his four-year stay with CSKA Moscow.
The 26-year-old winger spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Royal Antwerp, where he gained valuable UEFA Champions League experience, having also made 21 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and scoring three goals.
Ejuke moved to Europe in March 2017 when he joined Valerenga from Gombe United, playing in Norway for two years before making the switch to the Netherlands with Heerenveen in July 2019.
The Nigeria international, who last featured for his country at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, decided to follow compatriot Victor Moses to Russia in August 2020 and established himself as a first-team regular in his first two seasons for the Horses, while also getting his first taste of Europa League football in Moscow.
Ejuke has now decided to leave Russia for good and becomes the first summer signing for Garcia Pimienta’s side after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.
He hopes a transfer to Spain will revitalise his international career, telling the club’s official website: “It is special to be the first Nigerian here. I think I feel good being part of this team and I am looking forward to seeing what I can contribute to the team.
“I also hope to be able to back with Nigeria, because obviously it’s always nice to represent your country, so I hope it’s time to do it again and I’m also very excited.”
