Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has opened up about his decision to choose England over Ghana.


The 19-year-old midfielder was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, to parents from Ghana and he is coming off his breakout season with United.


Mainoo made 32 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals for the Red Devils which earned him a spot in England’s squad at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024.


The teenager admitted that he considered playing for the Black Stars of Ghana, but it has always been his dream to play for England’s Three Lions.


“Obviously I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage and there was speculation and whatnot,” Mainoo said in a press conference.


“But It has always been a dream to play for England so I’m happy to be here. I considered but I want to play for England.”


Mainoo played for England at under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels, before making his debut for the senior team in March 2024.
