South Africa were held to a 1-1 draw with Mozambique in their 2024 Cosafa Cup opener on Wednesday night, while reigning champions Zambia take on the newly invited Kenyan national team on Thursday evening.

In taking to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening, Hugo Broos and his young charges were once again faced with the pressure of producing the goods on home soil.

Cape Town Spurs star Rushwin Dortley gave Bafana the lead in the 39th minute of the match, as the hosts gained well deserved momentum heading into the break.

However, Chamito Alfandega levelled matters moments after the hour-mark, while South Africa failed to make the most of their scoring chances toward the final whistle.

Heading into Thursday’s list of fixtures, Zambia will commence their title defence with a clash against Kenya at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Along with the 11 Cosafa nations, Kenya joined the showpiece via a special invitation.
