Basaksehir have announced the signing of Jerome Opoku on a three-year contract from Arouca after taking up the option to make his loan move permanent.

The Ghana international spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at the Turkish Super Lig club and made quite the impact, registering four goals and one assist in 28 top-flight appearances.

Opoku had only joined the Wolves in July 2022 from Fulham and featured 29 times across all competitions for the Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit in his debut season.

The Cottagers youth product is now looking to carve out a successful career at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium after declaring on social media platform X that he “here to stay”.

A statement from the Grey Owls read: “A three-year contract was signed with our player using the option of Jerome Opoku, whom we rented from the Portuguese club Arouca at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season with the option to purchase.

“We wish success to Jerome Opoku, who will continue his career as a valuable member of the Basaksehir family.”

Opoku’s early performances in Turkey earned him a maiden call-up to the Black Stars squad last year and he won his first international cap in a friendly against the United States on 18 October 2023.

The 25-year-old defender did not go to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but was recalled in March and started in the friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda.
