As one of the biggest Cosafa Cup shocks in recent memory, Kenya bagged an impressive 2-0 win over Zambia in their opening Group B encounter on Thursday evening.

Kenya, who are participating in the tournament via a special invitation, got off to a flyer at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and had Zambia on the ropes early on.

Austin Odhiambo’s converted penalty in the 9th minute gave the Harambee Stars a well-deserved lead in Gqeberha while Patrick Otieno doubled his nation’s lead just 10 minutes later.

After building their lead, the Kenyans proved to be a tough nut to crack for much of their encounter while Zambia continued to pile on the pressure in search of their opener.

Zambia’s performance was summed up with a sending off deep into stoppage time after Kelvin Kapumbu received his marching orders in the 94rd minute.

Moving onto Friday’s list of fixtures, Lesotho and Seychelles will take to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the 3:00pm CAT kick-off, which will be followed by a Group C tie between Angola and Namibia.
