Alex Balboa is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career after joining Almere City on a free transfer from Alaves.
The Equatorial Guinea, who was born in Spain, came up through the youth ranks at the Babazorros before going on to play for feeder club San Ignacio in 2020.
Balboa returned to the Mendizorroza the following season and made his professional debut against Leganes in August 2022, finishing the campaign with 11 appearances under his belt.
The 23-year-old midfielder signed a new contract with the Basque outfit in July 2023 and was subsequently loaned out to Huesca for the 2023-24 season.
However, with that deal having expired at the end of June, Balboa has opted for a move to the Netherlands and is relishing the challenge of competing in the Eredivisie.
“It is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to getting started here. It is a great challenge to be in the strong competition that is the Eredivisie and I want to make it a great year with the team and for myself,” he told his new club’s official website.
Almere City technical manager Johan Hansma added: “With the arrival of Alex we have more options for the midfield and the framework of the new selection is starting to take shape. We are happy that Alex has chosen the club based on our story and our ambitions.”
