Senegalese star Moussa Niakhate has explained why he left English Premier League club Nottingham Forest for Olympique Lyonnais.
The 1,90m tall central defender signed a four-year deal that runs until 30 June 2028 and the transfer is worth £27 million (€31.9 million).
Niakhate revealed that he spoke to Algeria international and AS Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar, who started his career at Lyon, about the French Ligue 1 giants.
“Everything happened very quickly. Two days ago, I was in Abu Dhabi, I was about to go to Zanzibar,” Niakhate said on the club’s YouTube channel.
“I had a thought when someone spoke to me about OL. It’s funny because five days ago, I was in Dubai and I recognized someone from behind.
“With his gait, his bowed legs. It was Houssem Aouar, he told me a lot of good things about Lyon. The opinions were unanimous,” he added.
“I had the chance to talk with the coach, everything was going in that direction.”
Born in France, Niakhate to parents of Senegalese descent. He is a former youth international for France.
The 28-year-old has 12 caps for Senegal.
